im from Montreal and of course i have to speak french but i am english, i come from a Russian/Italian/Irish/Spanish origin, and i know all of the languages including French. Italian is just like French. If you have iTunes on your computer you could go to the iTunes store and go in the Podcast section and get a FREE podcast that is called How To Speak Italian! it gives you one lesson a day on bassic words, and phrases, i hope this helps you a lot, it helped me, then i started getting books, hehe.
References :
Kudos to you for being so interested in foreign languages! Many colleges will want to accept you for being bilingual. The best language learning software I know of is Rosetta Stone. Other than that, you can check out books and videos from the library and learn that way. There is an endless amount of videos and books you can check out from the library, go check it out.
