What would be some good technics to start myself off on learning German?

November 13th, 2009 | by admin |

Okay, so German is my favorite language, and ever since I was a little kid, I’ve always wanted to learn it someday. I live in the western U.S., so learning it from a fluent speaker is out of the question. I’m planning on buying Rosetta Stone later on, but what would be a good start for me, and at a relatively low price. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

If you have iTunes or an iPod, do a powersearch for German lesson podcasts. There are quite a few online, some of my favorite are http://www.mygermanclass.com/ which is a video podcast, but do a search on audio ones for beginners as well.
To work on my pronunciation, I used to download SlowGerman podcasts, which are just articles in german read by someone, and listen to them as I was falling asleep… I like to think those subconciously helped make my accent better. Haha.
Buy yourself a German to English Dictionary, or take one out at the library.
Nothing is going to be as good as formal lessons, which you might be able to take at a community college, but you can get a good start with some podcasts.
