If you can find the cash, Rosetta stone. I was gonna get it for my trip through Quebec, where they prefer speaking French, although they also speak English.

Otherwise, you can try Instant Immersion. They even have a meter where you can speak into a microphone and improve your accent.
References :
You may want to try Rosetta Stone, although those I know who've tried this program didn't think much of it.

German is a very difficult language to learn. There are 6 words for "the" (Die Der Das Den Des Dem) and you MUST use the correct one depending on the context (or case) of the sentence. Otherwise it completely changes the meaning. There are 3 genders in German and you have to know the gender of each noun.

Grammar is really the most difficult aspect of learning German. Vocab is not that hard and spelling is a sinch.

I agree with Tony. And I think Rosetta Stone teaches exactly the way those cards taught You English. Pictures and phrases to describe them. Just like how children learn in their early years.
References :
I must agree, that Rosetta Stone is a good system. I had the same problem, but with French. I passed up all my classmates and got an A for the entire year. It is a very good system and I reccomend it.
