How should I go about learning German on my own?

March 7th, 2010 | by admin |

I really really want to learn the german language but it’s not offered at a time I can take the clas at my school do to scheduling (we’re only allowed to take seven classes and my schedule is already full, i’m in high school) but I still want to learn german very much so,
does anyone know a way in which i could teach myself the language???
that would be SUPER!
thanks=)

In iTunes there’s a language section of the podcasts. Look for "My Daily Phrase German". This can help. Also try asking and answering questions on Y!A to test your self. I hope I helped! Thanks for always answering my questions! =) Happy Easter

Oh yeah, and at some places you can buy german books. You might be able to get cheap ones from like Good Will or somewhere.

    Head down to the local Biergarten and strike up conversations with the old German guys. They like to teach young people their rhyming sayings and their beer-drinking songs. Beware, though: they will likely teach you some dialect, not the High German you’ll learn in school. (I learned some "Säksisch" German this way.) It would be like going to a honky tonk to learn English. If your town or city has an annual Schützenfest (an awesome festival that combines beer, firearms, and German culture) or Deutschenfest, you can go there to meet German speakers and find out about clubs and cultural groups. You may also contact your local college to find out about German language clubs. You could then contact the club and find out if you must be an active student to join or attend meetings.

    EDIT: There are some very good tapes/CDs on the market. If you have a half-priced book store locally, that’s the best place to get them. Berlitz and Language/30 have some good, inexpensive beginners’ lessons.

    i doubt you (or many people) could teach yourself/themselves
    you have to learn to pronounce the words, and you learn to do that by hearing it

    try going to a tutor or after school programs
