I'm currently in a German language course. It is easy once you get the hang of it's sentence structure, as the language is not difficult to read and write (very phonetic, unlike English).

It is definitely worth learning, as it can be used not only in Germany, but also in many parts of the EU. Some countries (apart from Germany) also make the language a requirement for job applications.

All said, even if you intend to learn it for fun, I say go for it! Because knowledge is never wasted.
References :
I learned German a few years ago. I found it fairly easy to learn and was well worth learning for me. It turned out that where I was working had a machine that was built in Germany and the "instructions" were in German. . . guess who was the only one that could do anything?

I am currently working for a company that does a lot of business in Germany and I get to travel a lot because of my knowledge of the language.

I am not as fluent as I once was, but enough to have a very good conversation with just about anyone.

So, my advice to you. . . Learn the language. You will not be dissappointed.
